Abstract

This study is a literature review that examines the sustainability and meaning of the Mapalus tradition in the lives of today's society. Mapalus is a form of traditional cooperation typical of the Minahasa community that contains the values of togetherness, solidarity, and mutual assistance. Along with social changes and progress, the implementation of Mapalus has shifted in form, although its basic values can still be implemented in strengthening character and social development. Based on a search of various scientific sources, it was found that Mapalus has great potential to continue to be developed through a contextual approach, such as the use of digital technology and integration in cultural education. The results of the study show that this tradition is still preserved in rural communities and has been adapted in urban environments in the form of digital-based social cooperation, community cooperatives, and character education. In addition, Mapalus has also been proven to play a role in increasing social resilience and citizen participation in community-based development. Therefore, Mapalus has the potential to be used as a model for local development that is sustainable and responsive to the dynamics of the times.
